Final presentation given for the Parsons Research & Development Methods course, taught by Sachiko Uozumi.
The goal of my research this semester was to identify what design opportunities exist as a result of the fundamental changes in communication and social relationships brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, I took focus on social media and how it could be reimagined to serve as a better tool for daily communication.
I found my research to be most successful when I was able to anonymously ask people deep questions that let them be mindful and reflect on their life & relationships. From this, I derived three key insights.
1. During the pandemic, people have lost friends and are have found it difficult to make new friends.
2. A lack of physical contact with friends has kept people isolated and lonely, especially in their social relationships.
3. (Most Critical) Despite the loss of friends, people still manage to find small moments of joy in their lives that drive them and hold deep meaning.
